Despite the challenges, Yamur dreams of becoming a history teacher one day, her favorite subject.
Growing up in Ognyanovo with her parents and siblings, Yamur saw the struggle her father faced as he dropped out of school at a young age. His limited education limited their opportunities as a family.
Through Mission Without Borders' family sponsorship program, things began to change. Yamur's family received valuable support, including essential school supplies through the 'Back to School' campaign. This support lifted a significant burden off their shoulders.
With a newfound sense of confidence, Yamur entered sixth grade, excited and prepared for the journey ahead. Her face lit up as she received her backpack and school supplies, feeling like she finally belonged.
Yamur's passion for history shone through her dedication to learning. Her teachers recognized her potential and often allowed her to share lessons with the class. These moments made her feel like a real teacher, even if only for a short while.
However, Yamur faced challenges beyond her studies. Being of Roma origin, she knew discrimination could be a barrier. Still, she was determined to prove herself and build lasting friendships.
The dream of becoming a teacher kept Yamur motivated. She knew education was her ticket to a better life for herself and her family. Despite financial hardships and societal expectations, she refused to marry young and committed herself to pursuing her dreams.
